Carrie White
Head Coach

Carrie moved to the Eastern Sierra in 2015, first living in June Lake before making Mammoth home. After several winters working for Mammoth Mountain, she discovered her passion for coaching while working with MMSST over the past few seasons.

Swimming played a big role in her life growing up in Kansas City, where many of her best memories were made at the pool. She is excited to share that same love for the sport and help develop lifelong swimmers.

Katrionna (Kat) Furness
Assistant Coach

Kat is excited to return to the Sharks this season, having grown up swimming with the team. Being back on deck as a coach is a full-circle moment, and she brings both experience and enthusiasm to the program.

She is currently studying child psychology and plans to become an occupational therapist. Coaching allows her to combine her love of swimming with her passion for working with kids.

Kat believes swimming is more than just a sport — it builds friendships, confidence, and lasting memories. Her coaching style focuses on energy, kindness, and creating a fun, supportive environment where every swimmer can thrive.

Liza Elder
Assistant Coach

Liza grew up in the Florida Keys, spending as much time in the water as possible. She swam for Bone Island Swim Club and Key West High School, and competed in open water events including the 12.5-mile Swim Around Key West. By graduation, she ranked among the top swimmers in the state and still holds records at her high school.

She coached throughout college and beyond before taking time to raise her children while her husband served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Their journey took them across the country, with their final station in Alexandria, Virginia.

In Alexandria, Liza founded a youth and adult triathlon team that grew to over 100 athletes, from beginners to national-level competitors. She also served as head coach of a summer swim team of about 80 swimmers in a league of nearly 20,000 athletes, producing all-star qualifiers and building learn-to-swim and parent-child programs.

In addition, she has coached age-group swimmers, strength training, and taught recreational gymnastics. Liza and her family now split their time between Mammoth (summer) and Florida (winter), and she is excited to be part of the MLST community.
