MLST Code of Conduct
We expect all swimmers, parents/guardians, and coaches to act in a respectful and courteous manner at all times.
Violations of expected behavior may result in suspension or removal from the team. Fees are non-refundable in cases of disciplinary action.
MLST reserves the right to take immediate action, including removal, based on the severity of the situation.

The following behaviors are not tolerated:
- Abuse of facilities or equipment
- Swearing, verbal assaults, or physical assaults
- Harassment, bullying, or inappropriate behavior
Swimmers are expected to:
- Respect teammates and coaches
- Be on time and prepared
- Bring required equipment, including extra goggles and caps
- Follow coach instructions
- Show good sportsmanship
- Avoid disruptive behavior and respect others
- No dunking, splashing, spitting, trash talking, or horseplay
- No inappropriate, sexist, or racist behavior
- Know events and report on time
- Check postings, heats, and lane assignments
- Be ready behind the blocks
- Check in with coaches before and after races
- Wear team cap
Parents are expected to:
- Support swimmers and coaching staff
- Not interrupt practice (except emergencies)
- Communicate with coaches outside practice time
- Address meet concerns through coaches, not officials
- Be respectful to volunteers
- Follow volunteer policy
- Recognize swim team is not childcare
- Supervise children at all times
- Ensure swimmers are not left unattended
- Inform coaches of other strenuous activities
- Provide proper nutrition
- Resolve concerns with coach first, then board if needed
Pool rules:
- No running on deck
- No glass containers
- No unsupervised children under 13
- No use of lifeguard equipment
- No animals
- Follow all facility rules
- No drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
Disciplinary process:
1st offense — verbal warning
2nd offense — written warning
3rd offense — suspension
4th offense — removal

- Shared public space
- Use respectfully
- Avoid unnecessary time
- No unrelated adult alone with minors
- Report concerns immediately
- Professional communication only
- Parents included whenever possible
- No private one-on-one communication
- Must be observable and interruptible
- Must occur in open/public settings
- No private or isolated interactions
