Swim Meet 101
- Chairs, towels, and kids everywhere
- Chilly mornings and sometimes evenings
- Limited viewing space (except for deck volunteers)
- New friends and a great time
Plan to arrive 15 minutes before warm-ups.
This gives you time to park, set up, and have your swimmer check in with the Clerk of Course and their coach.
Pay attention to your swimmer’s event numbers and check the board for heat assignments. Help your swimmer learn to track their own events.
Make sure your swimmer is at the ready bench on time with goggles and cap ready. Always check in with the coach before and after each event.
- Team suit
- Warm-up suit
- Team cap (bring an extra)
- Goggles (bring an extra pair)
- At least 2 towels
- Blanket to sit/rest on
- Sweatpants & sweatshirt (for cold mornings)
- Shoes easy to put on/off
- T-shirt
- Chairs and shade tent
- Sunscreen
- Healthy snacks & water
- Pen or pencil
- Patience, encouragement, and TEAM SPIRIT
Optional: money for snacks/gear, games or cards between events
All swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend warm-ups.
Warm-ups help loosen muscles and allow swimmers to get familiar with the pool.
Swimmers should practice starts, turns, and backstroke counts. Be on time and check with coaches for lane assignments.
Parents are responsible for transportation and overnight accommodations for swim meets.
